Rock Gym this Thursday!

Another "NTHS Night" at the Warehouse Rock Gym is coming up this Thursday, April 2nd from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.  It's only $10 (plus tax) for a pass and rentals--a very good deal! See you there, and bring a friend! Just show them your school ID and/or let them know you're an NTHS student.

You do need to complete and turn in an NTPS field trip form--if you haven't done this yet, you can pick one up in the library. You only need to fill out one of these for the entire year.

Also, if you're under 18 (and most of you are) you must have a parent/guardian sign a printed waiver. You can get one hereYou can't climb at the Rock Gym without it.

Ski trip cancelled and new plans

Where's the snow?
Well, our ski trip plan was a bust due to lack of a Winter this year. However, next year we're hoping for a return to normalcy and more opportunities to partner with Lacey Parks and Rec. We'll discuss plans at our next meeting, but many are interested in resurrecting a weekly ski bus for Lacey area high school students. Let's get together and see what we can do.

Despite the no-snow bummer, we still have plans for some great activities this Spring--here's the save-the-date list:

Stay tuned for more details and forms! See you soon.

Update: Ski/snowboard trip postponed!

Unfortunately, due to poor snow conditions and the strong possibility of warm, rainy weather
at White Pass this weekend, we are going to be postponing our planned ski/snowboard trip with Lacey Parks and Recreation from this Saturday, February 7th to Saturday March 14th. I’ve discussed plans with Kathy Owen at Lacey Parks, and we both agree that this will be best to ensure that everyone has a good time and gets their money worth. This will also allow for five more weeks of snow accumulation (keep your fingers crossed!).

If you are unable to join us on March 14th, please call Lacey Parks at 360.491.0857 to discuss refund options.  If you can make it on the 14th, then do nothing—you’ll still be registered and we’ll look forward to enjoying a (slightly delayed) day enjoying the mountain snow.

There's still time to register (and space available) for the February 7th  OAC/Lacey Parks and Recreation trip to White Pass Ski area! Remember--we're taking this trip through Lacey Parks, so in order to get on the list you need to call 360-491-0857 and let them know you're interested in the specific February 7th trip. You can also stop by their office next to City Hall. It will cost $15.00 for a trip up in the vans, and we'll be able to get everyone a group rate for lift tickets (as long as we get enough people). You are not required to ride in the vans--NTHS community members can still get the group rate, even if you drive up on your own. Check your email and/or see Mr. Coker for more details.

Climbing legend Fred Beckey to speak at The Evergreen State College

Famous photo of Fred Beckey
Don't miss this very cool opportunity to see a local (and international) legend in person! It's safe to say that there's no more experienced climber on the planet today (and who is still climbing). It's only 5 bucks! Here's the information:

The Outdoor Program at The Evergreen State College has the honor of hosting Fred Beckey as guest speaker on February 11th, 2015. This two-hour presentation will cover his favorite climbs through photos, videos, and stories. Please join us for an evening honoring the life and legacy of Fred Beckey and his progression from a fledgling climber in the Pacific Northwest to a world-wide mountaineering legend.
