Elwha Valley and Elwha River Restoration

Another great trip!

On April 30, 2016 the NTHS Outdoor Adventure Club visited the Elwha River Valley and the site of the former Glines Canyon Dam. Due to a washout (the river is returning to its natural state, after all) we had to hike approximately 9.1 miles roundtrip to the former dam site and reservoir bed, and it was worth the effort. The weather was perfect (again), the group was strong and the DQ Blizzards were tasty.

Here are more links to give you some background information related to the Elwha River Restoration process:

Pleasant Glade Neighborhood Park Habitat Restoration

Rams at work!
On Saturday, March 12th, a group of NTHS Outdoor Adventure Club leaders teamed up with the City of Lacey and U.S. Fish and Wildlife for a morning of service, planting native trees at the new Pleasant Glade Park in Lacey. One of the organizers reported that NTHS was "by far, my favorite volunteer group we've had!"

We'll be back for more in the coming months and years!

Mt. Rainier and other updates!

Hi, everyone! A few updates:
  1. There are still spots available for the January 23rd trip to Mt. Rainier! There will be no trip fee for this one, but there will be gear requirements (it will be snowy and, possibly, cold). See Mr. Coker and/or check your email for more info. Also, please confirm with Mr. Coker ASAP if you have a parent who is willing to drive.
  2. A Lacey Parks sponsored/NTHS Outdoor Club ski trip is being planned for Saturday, February 20th. Save the date! Prices and transportation options are being finalized, and we'll share details ASAP next week.
  3. Our next fundraiser will be running concessions at the boys basketball game on Friday, January 29th. Please let Mr. Coker know if you can help!
Here's the video from last year's Mt. Rainier trip--we'll definitely have WAY more snow this year, and, hopefully, more sunshine (or at least visibility):
