Upcoming trip reminders

Hi, everyone.

Snow is (again) beginning to accumulate in the mountains! To celebrate this, we have two trips planned in early 2015:

January 10th - Snowshoe trip to Mount Rainier Space is limited! See Mr. Coker soon for a permission slip and make sure you don't miss out. We'll be collecting a $10 fee for this trip to cover gas and district van use costs, and there might be an additional (small) fee for rentals. I'm working on getting us a deal to keep it as close to $0 as possible. Check your email for trip details.

February 7th - Skiing/Riding at White Pass Remember--we're taking this trip through Lacey Parks, so in order to get on the list you need to call 360-491-0857 and let them know you're interested in the specific February 7th trip. You can also stop by their office next to City Hall. It will cost $15.00 for a trip up in the vans, and we'll be able to get everyone a group rate for lift tickets (as long as we get enough people). Check your email and/or see Mr. Coker for more details.

More important dates:

  • Our next Warehouse Rock Gym night is January 8th
  • January 21st: Concession fundraiser, NTHS v. Capital Boys Basketball

Keep checking your email for more info!

More Summer Activities!

Here are some great offerings from Lacey Parks (thanks, Rachel!):

Summer!

Summer is almost here!  What are you going to do? Here are some options:

1. Get involved with the Mountaineers South Sound Adventure Club:
2. Get involved with the Olympia Yacht Club Youth Sailing program -- there's still time to sign up!

3. Spend some time at the Warehouse Rock Gym.  They've got a great summer deal for students--see the image to the right and/or ask them about it.

Challenge Course at TESC

The NTHS Outdoor Adventure Club's first trip out to The Evergreen State College's Challenge Course was a big success. Though the elements kept us from participating in all the elements, everyone is excited about returning in the Fall (9.27.2014) for more fun and better weather. Thanks to Mr. Nelson, Ms. Sybouts, Miles and the facilitators from Evergreen for a great day!

News and Challenge Course Date

Hi, everyone.

Thanks again to Brigit Anderson of The Mountaineers for stopping by at yesterday's meeting.  Stay tuned for more information from her regarding the simplified process for signing up for Mountaineers-sponsored trips. Keep in mind that we can make suggestions for her, too, so if there's a trip we want to take we should let her know and we'll work together to organize it.

Club Trip: TESC Challenge Course - A date has been set for our club trip to the Challenge Course at The Evergreen State College: Saturday, April 19th. Put in on your calendars and we'll communicate the details at the next meeting. Also, if you know a parent who would like to volunteer to come along please let me know.

A few more reminders:
  1. If you're interested in the High School Sailing Team, contact Mr. Hinchcliffe ASAP in room 121
  2. Student Night at the Warehouse Rock Gym is on every Saturday from 7-11 PM--1/2 off passes. We're looking at March 17th for our first "NTHS Night" at the Rock Gym at an even cheaper rate. More details to come.
  3. There is an Olympia Mountaineers Conservation meeting this Saturday the 22nd. If interested, let Mr. Coker know--it would be a good opportunity to make connections.
  4. Check out the Facebook page--it will probably be updated more often than this page. We're on Twitter, too @nthsoutdoors

Sign-up for Mountaineers programs and other updates

Hello, everyone.

The information night was a success (more on that at our next meeting), but unfortunately the Mountaineers' Adventure Club coordinator, Brigit Anderson, was unable to attend due to a mild concussion (bike accident!). She's fine and has asked me to share the following program sign-up information with you:
  • You and your parents can sign you up free of charge online using the online Guest Membership form. You can also submit the PDF form via mail, if you wish. Just print out and mail.
  • All students should apply for financial assistance (unless you absolutely don't want any). Here's the link to that form.
  • All students and parents must sign the Youth Programs Waiver Form and turn in to Brigit
  • All student and parents must complete and sign the Medical Authorization Form and turn in to Brigit
  • One more legal form: all students and parents must complete and sign the Youth Health Form and turn in to Brigit
We'll talk more about this on Wednesday the 5th, but this should get you started.

Also, if you're heading to the Rock Gym, let everyone know. We'll talk about setting up regular dates at our meeting. Also, Mr. Hinchcliffe is getting things going for the folks interested in sailing--stay tuned!

Campus Clean-Up

Hi, everyone (and welcome back).

Just a reminder that next week the NTHS Outdoor Adventure Club will have campus clean-up as a fundraiser. The officers and some club members met this morning and determined that Monday 1/13, Tuesday 1/14 and Thursday 1/16 will be the days we'll do campus clean-up.

Please email me or stop by the library if you'd like to sign up for one (or more) of those days. If you haven't done campus clean-up before, it's very easy: we'll just meet right after school in the library, then go downstairs to get the supplies and spend about 1 hour (no later than 3:00) picking up around campus. Do this and the club gets $150!

Here are the details:
  • Minimum of 5 students each day
  • Get trash bags and gloves from ASB workroom/custodian closet off of commons--please use the black/grey trash bags, not the clear recycle bags
  • Students pick up trash around campus, parking lots, athletic fields, etc.
  • All used trash bags go in the dumpster out back, unused trash bags get returned to the custodian closet
  • At the end of the week, we email Ms. Reed and the club gets $150 bucks!
